Review: Bad Magic, by Motörhead
Motörhead has recorded a new album, and while a bit stuck in their old ways, they are still willing to experiment.
Bad Magic starts of with a short instrumental intro then a powerful, yet raspy voice yells “victory or die!” The song continues with a melody you could dance to. Rock and metal may not be your usual dancing soundtrack, but this is the first instance in the album of Motörhead stretching the limits of their creativity.
The next song pushes the speed limit with the hit song Thunder and Lightning. Then tracks #4 and #5 show their true, original colors.
For #6’s The Devil, the band turns up their bass for a real heavy sound, then afterward returns to the Motörhead way of doing things till Track #9
#9 reveals to listeners an unvisited part of the band’s emotions with a slow, sad ballad. Not the usual punk sounding speed metal.
To end the album, Motörhead plays a heavy metal cover of the Rolling Stones’ Sympathy for the Devil.
So for a rating from 1 to 10, I give Motörhead’s new album an 8.
