Music Review: To Pimp A Butterfly
Popular rap artist from Compton, Kendrick Lamar revealed his new album “To Pimp a Butterfly” a full week early and already has a record of over nine million record listens in twelve hours, breaking Drake’s six million record listens for “If you’re Reading This it’s Too Late.”
This album definitely has different R&B sound as compared to his hardcore gangster rap album “good kid, m.A.A.d city.” One might say that the change of pace is refreshing, showing that Kendrick Lamar is an evolving artist.
Lamar’s new album includes funk and jazz sounds. He released “The Blacker the Berry” and “I” a few weeks early, these songs were very controversial due to racial matters, but nonetheless the songs were very good.
My favorite tracks on “To Pimp a Butterfly” was “King Kunta” and “For Free?” for their powerful lyricism and good beats.
Out of a 10 ratio I would have to give it a 9.5 out of 10, not only because each song portrays a story and a time in his life, and as a listener, it is very interesting to learn about the artist.
