With the spring semester now in full swing, Fine Arts programs are going from preparation to performance. As students from various disciplines transition from learning to performance, the schedule indicates a period filled with assessments, trips, and performances. The last part of the semester is dedicated to developing skills and team spirit.
The spring competitive season is characterized by a series of assessments that establish preparation criteria. Preparations for Pre-UIL on March 24 are ongoing for ensembles participating in the choir and band events. Musical maturity and concentration under pressure remain essential for the choir ensembles as they progress to Non-Varsity UIL on April 9-10 and Varsity UIL on April 15-16.
Earlier this semester, students from the school’s choir will participate in the Madrigal Festival on Feb. 27-28. The event is a crucial part of developing stylistic accuracy and teamwork. It tests students’ knowledge of history and their ability to apply historical accuracy and ensemble skills within a performance-oriented context. The school’s choir event culminates with the Pop Show on May 8.
Band students have a corresponding set of performance opportunities. The Chamber Music Festival on Feb. 19 focuses on the importance of collaborative work among small ensembles, as well as independent musicianship. The Percussion Concert on Feb. 24 highlights the complexity of rhythm and the importance of sectional work. These performances lead up to the Spring Concert on May 6.
Orchestra members face one of the busiest spring calendars. The process begins with a Disney 101 meeting on Feb. 2 and further includes a Pre-UIL concert during the school day on Feb. 19. The UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, to be held Mar. 3-5 at Klein Oak High School requires a refined repertoire and on-the-spot musical flexibility.
After UIL, the orchestra members embark on the Spring Trip to Orlando, Florida, from Mar. 5-10. The Spring Trip integrates performance experiences with travel-based learning and ensemble building. The spring calendar concludes with the Orchestra Banquet on May 4 at 6 p.m. at the Tomball Event Center and the Spring Concert and Senior Recognition Ceremony on May 7 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium.
Theatre students make their contributions through performances that are presented by The Tomball Stage. One of the most awaited events is the 29th Annual Dinner Theatre, which is set to take place on April 6. This event combines a catered dinner at 5:30 p.m. with a performance at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. This event is a performance of the 2026 UIL One-Act Play competition, which is a long-standing theatre tradition. Tickets to this event include a meal and a show, with show-only tickets also available. These tickets go on sale on March 27, giving people a chance to support theatre arts through this event.
Students also participate in activities that promote fundraising, which helps support their activities. This is an opportunity for them to further extend their skills, which go beyond the stage. From rehearsals to performances, as well as travel, which is a significant part of their activities in the spring. This is a reflection of the time, effort, and commitment that go into producing quality performances, which is a demonstration of the incredible talent that is exhibited by the Fine Arts.
