The Amazon monopoly: buying Twitch.tv

Watching people play video games is apparently not only popular, it’s extremely valuable.

“Amazon agreed on Monday to pay $970 million to acquire Twitch, a service that lets users watch and broadcast video game play. Each month millions of people tune into Twitch to watch friends and strangers play video games, including competitive tournaments,” money.cnn.com’s Matt Egan announced recently to millions of online fanatics.

Basically, Twitch.tv is all about is watching other people stream games on the internet for online viewers to watch live. Streaming is available to everyone; however Twitch.TV pays individuals with higher ratings to play video games and stream content that will be watched by a lot of people.

You can also make donations to your favorite streamers, and streamers also get paid for every user that subscribes to their channel.

Amazon has been building up their empire for a while now, including purchases such as Small Parts, woot!, audible.com, FABIC.COM, IMDb, Zappos.com, and many more.

Amazon already has quite the collection of companies in their possession. So the question that is in everyone’s mind is, what’s next?
