Review: Houston Ballet’s Sleeping Beauty

Review: Houston Ballet's Sleeping Beauty

On March 4, Houston Ballet put on it’s production of Sleeping Beauty.

The ballet is based on the classic fairy tale where a beautiful princess Aurora (played by first soloist, Katherine Precourt) is cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse, and is destined to sleep for one hundred years until she is kissed and awakened by a handsome prince who falls in love with her. At the end of the ballet everyone comes together for the celebration of Aurora and prince Phillip’s wedding, and they are joined by the fairy tale classic, Puss in Boots, and his feline friend.

This fairy tale was brought to life by the dancers on stage. Every aspect of the performance was beautiful from the costumes to the special effects, and not the mention the cleanly executed dancing.

I, personally, think that the real star of the show was Puss in Boots and the feline friend. Overall the ballet was entertaining and enjoyable for anyone to watch.
