The Cougars held their final game of the regular season at home hosting the Klein Forest Eagles where a win would seal the programs first district championship in 36 years.
Forest was aiming to play spoiler as they were far out of the playoffs, the only goal they had was crush the Cougars’ spirits by denying them of lifting the golden trophy after the clock hit zeros. But the Cougars rolled to a dominant 42-7 victory that was filled with smiles and the celebration started for the Tomball players, coaches and fans as it had been a long time coming for the success they’ve accumulated this season.
The Cougars hit the peak form that they showed they could be throughout the season, putting together a characteristically explosive offensive performance with a strong defensive performance that was similar to last week’s against Cain. This was overall the best game of the season as both sides of the ball played to their best level for all four quarters which led to the blowout final result and a Cougar district championship.
Offensively the Cougars had nearly everything working even without star running back Oswaldo Morales who they chose to rest, scoring on three of their six first half drives and two others stalled out deep into enemy territory. In the second half they continued their dominance, where in the first there was an explosive attack through the air, in the second half they benched quarterback Jaxyn Faldyn and brought in backup Brock Taylor who also led three scoring drives led by a much more prominent running game, as freshman phenom Ian Thomas broke onto the scene in a big way with his first career varsity carry going for over 30 yards. An offensive performance this strong is great to build off of going into their first round playoff matchup.
Tomball’s defense is now coming off of two of their best performances of the year, holding a great Cain offense to no touchdowns through nearly three quarters and now holding a shutout through almost three quarters against Forest before allowing one late touchdown. If this defense carries this level of play into these playoff games and the offense continues to put up the high scoring games it has this team is poised to make a deep run.
