The Cougar football team was ranked the area’s No. 5 team in Class 5A, according to the Houston Chronicle.

The official Chronicle rankings:

1. Manvel 5-0 (70, seven first-place votes)

2. Angleton 5-0 (60)

3. Crosby 6-0 (58)

4. Magnolia West 5-0 (47)

5. Tomball 5-1 (35)

6. New Caney 5-1 (26)

7. Waltrip 5-0 (20)

8. FB Marshall 3-2 (19)

9. Brenham 4-1 (16)

10. Magnolia 3-2 (14)

Worth noting is that the Cougars play 9th-ranked Brenham this week. It’s also noteworthy that there are four teams from the district ranked among the Houston area’s top 10 teams, including Magnolia West (4) and Magnolia (10).
