It wasn’t exactly the start the Cougars had hoped for.
With a new head coach and optimism surrounding a move to Class 4A, a face from the past pinned a 48-14 loss on the Cougars to open the season.
Katy Morton Ranch, which beat the Cougars last year as well, led 34-7 at the half as E.J. Achelus posted 242 yards on 14 carries for the night.
Tomball was led by running back Xavier Powell with 158 yards rushing, while quarterback Drew Reynolds completed nine of 11 passes for 107 yards.
It was the first of three consecutive games against Class 5A foes. Next weekend, Tomball will face Jersey Village, then will play Katy Mayde Creek before opening District 22-4A action.
