Ramsey told Waco TV station KWTX that it was a “gut-wrenching” decision, but he and his wife wanted to be closer to family as they are expecting their fourth child.

Ramsey’s wife, Pam, is the department chair for math atWaco High School. There is no word on whether she will join the THS staff.

Ramsey said the Cougars will not see a significant change to the offensive and defensive schemes next fall.

“Defensively, we will remain a 3-4 with some tweaks and verbage changes and offensively, we will run the spread option,” he said. “Neither of those tells anyone anything except to say that our offensive system has been molded many times to fit the athletes available, and we will continue to do so.”

He inherits a team that is just two years removed from a deep run into the playoffs, and about to embark on its first season in District 22-4A.

“The new district will be a tricky one to decifer,” he said. “I know some of the newer coaches for the teams in the district, and they have extensive football backgrounds, making improvements with their teams at every stop they’ve made. Tomball won’t be out-worked.

“It will be a fun transition. We are excited to be Cougars!”
