Softball falls short of state tourney

Tomball softball has gone to playoffs almost every year.

“It is expected of us to go to playoffs,” said senior Alyssa Bass, “And it’s good feeling when we make it.”

For the past four years, Tomball has gone to state, but never won it. This year, the girls fell one game short of another shot at the state title.

The girls fell to The Woodlands 9-7 Saturday in another slugfest, knocking the Lady Cougars out of the playoffs. A day after Tomball handed The Woodlands its first loss of the season, the girls rallied in the fourth and fifth innings to tighten the game, but couldn’t quite pull out another win.

Freshman Lexie Comeaux had two homers and an RBI single to account for five of Tomball’s seven runs scored.

Each player had set their own goals for the year.

“I want to be a good teammate,” Bass said, “and leave a legacy behind for next year’s seniors.”

In that regard, the hard-fought series against a powerful team was a success. But the players will return to school Tuesday disappointed that the season is over.

“They tells us to live the moment,” Bass said. “Before you know it, its gone.”
