Recognize academic achievments

Amidst the excitement of football celebrations and playoffs, people in the background make state competitions and even win state titles. Many don’t know about this because they get little to no recognition. Academic achievements need more recognition because it would open more opportunities and encourage students.

Teenagers in high school have no idea about the variety academics can have. There’s something for everyone, but too few knows this because no one talks about academic organizations. There’s math, science, reading, writing, poetry, etc. If more people knew about it, people would find what they’re good at.

With more encouragement, students will perform better academically. If students see or hear their peers being rewarded for doing well academically, they’ll feel more motivated to do better. Whether it’s competitiveness or trying to relate to their peers, encouragement works.

Many argue that there are more important things that need attention, like football. While it may be true that football and other sports need that recognition, aren’t academics equally as important? They get people scholarships and the opportunity to go to a good school. Without good grades, athletes can’t participate in their sports. Academics should be presented as equally important as athletics for this reason.

To achieve this recognition schools should reward students who have done well academically by congratulating them on the announcements and making social media posts. The positive affects of this would be students feeling recognized and appreciated for their more-than-satisfactory achievements.
