Mariachi Herencia students geared up for state, at Seguin High School in San Antonio, on March 21. After working hard all year, Mariachi Herencia has proudly shown that they deserve to be on stage and that they are not backing down.
From the beginning of the program, the students who are in the Mariachi Herencia group would have never expected anything like this before. With this program being only two years old, they couldn’t possibly foresee what was to come.
Section leader violin player Camila Reyes stated, “ I feel pretty good, this is the first time we are ever going to state as a first-year mariachi group here at Tomball, and it’s just really exciting.”
Since the beginning, these students in the mariachi have shown excellent growth from the start of this journey. This path has led them to take the lead from the area competition to state, after only existing for two years, making history for Tomball and changing the perspective of others around to see the group grow.
“I feel pretty hyped, honestly, this is really an enthusiastic trip,” Junior armonía section leader vihuela Aidan Kael said. “We got everyone, we got the whole roster stacked, we got Marcos on the base, Wilmer on the guitar, and overall a pretty good deal.”
Overall, the students have shown immense growth, and Mr. Aguirre is very proud of every one of them in the group’s third division.
The Mariachi Herencia teacher, Mr. Aguirre, said, “I never say this enough, but this is the right group of kids to take to state, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
At the end of the journey with high hopes, leaving the UIL state with a division 3, with this in mind, giving them more motivation to work harder than they did this year to do even better in the future.
