The Mariachi Herencia students are going to experience their first time to ever go to a UIL area competition with official Mariachi uniforms, to compete against other schools, and to be able to have a chance at going into state on Jan. 24.
“It’s exciting, a bit nerve wracking, but it’s really just about how we get set, we set ourselves up to have our own goal. maybe not a lot of people might have expectations for us, but we want to, we want to set the bar at a very high level,” said Miguel Aguirre, Mariachi director.
After only one year, the students in the mariachi have grown more and more to get to where they are now; they practice every day in class and after school, to perfect their playing for their very first time going to a UIL contest.
“I think as long as the kids come out of that stage with with with the feeling and with the understand that they did the best that they could and that they were able to put on a good performance, I think that’s what mainly matters,” Aguirre said. “I do hope that they get a Division One at UIL.”
