Emily Isaacks and Jeyne Figueroa competed for a spot in the 6A All-State Band last Saturday, as Emily placed one chair away and Jeyne was selected to the 6A All-State Band.

This achievement is a top honor for any young Texas musician. Only 1,830 students are selected out of the 70,00 that go through the audition process.

“The best part about playing my instrument is being able to express emotion on it,” said Jeyne, a sophomore. “It is a sense of relief for me.”

Jeyne had always seen her future to be in the nursing industry, but band has transformed her to purse the musical aspects of life.

Jeyne will rehearse with the rest of the All-State Band in Feb. and will perform for the Texas Music Educators Association State Convention in San Antonio.

“I felt surprised when I first saw the list and next to my name it said All-State” said Jeyne “but I felt accomplished that my goals were made.”
