Both Varsity Soccer teams advanced to the State Playoffs after their final game against TMHS. Now Soccer is headed to Brenham today to challenge their opponents with Girls playing Cedar Creek and Boys playing Pflugerville Connally for round one in the playoffs.

After the lightning watch was lifted, Girls Soccer team duked it out the Friday before spring break against TMHS for their final district game ultimately winning a hard fought victory. Varsity final score: 2-1/ JV final score: 1-0

The Boys, on the other hand, lost to TMHS after a hard fought game. Final score: 0-1.

“I think we’re gonna win, at least I hope so.” Corie Johns, a Girls’ varsity player said before the game, “Last time we beat them 1-0 after going into overtime.”

Yet it would seem mother nature wanted neither teams to win, let alone play that night. With hard rain and lightning coming down, the game was postponed originally about 30 mins.

However, this prolonged into an hour and a half wait yet the end mother nature couldn’t stop the rivalry game.

“We beat them again, 2-0!” Ashlynn Lynch said.

“There it is,” Freshman Priscella Caruso shouted, “that’s what we’ve been practicing!”

First goal was by Jessica Martorelli, a freshmen, with an assist by Payton Doiron, also a freshmen.

“My second goal was better” Martorelli later said.

Her second goal was an epic part of the game. When the ball was kicked out of a crowd of soccer players, Martorelli was there to receive it. She continued to kick it until facing off against the Wildcat goalie. The goalie charged Martorelli but ultimately failed to stop the Coogette, who was able to score the second goal.

In the TMHS stands, the Wildcats began to jeer. They began to moan about how ‘unfair’ the referees were being.

Regardless, both sides got increasingly aggressive over the course of the game, all in an attempt to win the rivalry game.

“I felt like we were going to win.” Coach Freisleben said, “We had a plan and the girls executed.”
