School Web Restrictions: Aliana Rios-Salazar

Dear editor,

I’m very annoyed with the blockings of websites that mean no harm. Such as Pandora, Spotify, Buzzfeed, and iTunes radio. I know that a majority of these are music applications but it’s proven that music helps us focus and get work done faster. I don’t know why Buzzfeed would be blocked because it is a modern news source. It may have celebrity news stuff and other irrelevant things but it is a good news source for classes such as teen leadership for our current events.

Sincerely,

Aliana Rios-Salazar

To whom it may concern,

I understand the chagrin when it comes to the school blockade on websites; you aren’t the only one who would rather enjoy music during the school day. However, most teachers have quite a bit of experience with students tuning them out in favor of music. If you would like to have the school unblock the websites, you could do it through a teacher, but would have to somehow justify it having educational purposes.

As for news, Buzzfeed has been known to put out quite a lot of top ten lists, celebrity, and other “dumb” news, as well as inappropriate material for school (or so the district seems to think.) If you are looking for a good source of news, I would recommend BBC or Associated Press.

Sincerely,
