High School exempt from make-up days

High School exempt from make-up days

The TEA has recently granted a two-day waiver to Tomball ISD for days missed due to flooding. Because the district was closed for three days, one day will have to be made up, the state said.

Friday, June 3, is the current make-up day, effectively extending the year by one day for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. However, the high school will not have to make up this extra day.

“Because of the number of minutes we go to school each day, we are not required to make up the 3rd day we missed that was not waived,” Principal Quinn said.

For the high school, the final day of school will remain June 2nd. Both June 3rd for those below high school, and June 2nd for those above, will remain half-days.

Some local media outlets reported incorrectly that the state had waived three days.

“In some cases, the districts that lost more than 2 days of school still had bad weather make-up days on the calendar that they could use. Others have lengthened the school day for 10 to 30 minutes to make up the lost time,” said Debbie Ratcliffe, TEA spokeswoman.

Klein, who missed a full week of school, is adding both a make up day and 18 minutes to each school day from now until the end of the year.

The weather continues to cause problems at THS, including this week’s power outages. Storms are expected to continue in the area this weekend, though they are not expected to be nearly as severe.

Tonight’s regular season final game between Tomball and Tomball Memorial has been affected as well, moving to 4 p.m., taking place here at THS.
