Super Bowl XLIX for Dummies
With 2015 underway, the 2014 sports season is coming to a close with Tomball’s football season ending months ago, and the college football championship held in early January. This is the time of year when Americans resort to Discovery Channel and Food Network for entertainment. While collegiate fans recover from their team’s loss(es), everyone else can look forward to one of the most anticipated events of the year, the Super Bowl.
This year the Super Bowl is being held at the University of Phoenix stadium in Glendale, Arizona, home of the Arizona Cardinals. The stadium holds up to as many as 73,000 people and tickets go fast. Some other luxuries include; two high resolution video scoreboards, 77 Public Restrooms (30 Men’s, 35 Women’s and 12 Family), and 47 Concession stands. The stadium cost around $455 million dollars to build, but the many events that are held there somewhat help pay it off.
The two teams competing in the Super Bowl this season are the Seattle Seahawks (12-4) and the New England Patriots (12-4). The winning team is granted Super Bowl XLIX rings, the Lombardi Trophy, and of course, bragging rights.
For all of those people out there who are not exactly “sports fanatics,” there is another attraction to the Super Bowl, and that’s the half-time show. This year Katy Perry and Lenny Kravitz are going to perform. Last year 115 million viewers watched the half-time show featuring Bruno Mars and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Pepsi will be the sponsor of this year’s show, and as usual, fans are expecting nothing but the best.
As America anticipates this week’s games, many preparations are already being made to make sure one of the world’s most anticipated annual events is as great as ever.
