Last Thursday, a junior was arrested for having a gun on campus.
This was an unloaded gun, and it’s safe to say that the kid was not planning on shooting anybody. If anything, he was just storing it in his truck for hunting later on.
Specifically, this was a shotgun. Keep in mind that this is Tomball, Texas. Hunting is a common hobby around here, and kids do it all the time. Arresting a person as a potential shooter for having an unloaded weapon makes as much sense as calling a person an artist for owning a paintbrush, but no paint. It would make even less sense to arrest a student for keeping paintbrushes in their car.
With all the hype surrounding gun laws and sensationalized mass media coverage of public shootings, it comes to no surprise that people are worried about a shooting happening here at Tomball. But people need to use their common sense when it comes to laws. They were made to protect people, not arrest them for having a hobby.
If that doesn’t scream justice, nothing will.
