Volleyball starts strong with fresh team
The volleyball team was mournful to see 9 seniors go last year, meaning the loss of 9 experienced team members that they knew they could rely on. However, this didn’t stop them from starting the season strong with their first two tournaments. The team came 17th out of 48 in the first, and took second place in the silver bracket in the second.
“Our first tournament we did very well,” returning senior, Gabby Guy said. “It was mostly minor errors, and the little things as coach Wallace would say… I think we were able to learn a lot from it.”
With 9 seniors gone and four returning starters, the new volleyball team is relatively new. Though they don’t plan to keep it that way for long.
“It is a bit of an inexperienced team,” Coach Wallace said, “Though that’s quickly changing. With every time we step out on the court we gain more experience and get better. We’ve been competitive in district in the past and we plan to keep that up.”
The team at the moment is made up of mostly underclassmen, so the lack of experience is to be expected. The two tournaments, along with the games they have played, have been very beneficial.
“We have the talent and the skill,” Guy said, “Were now just working on team unity and getting everything to click.”
The next home game will be Tuesday, September 1st, at 4:30. They will be playing Ridgepoint, who they lost to in their previous tournament.
“I believe they actually won the entire tournament,” Guy said. “But, redemption. That’s what we’re coming back for.”
