Tuesday night, both the JV and Varsity softball teams won their district games against Northbrook. This was JV’s first district game, winning 12-2. Varsity won their second district game with a score of 15-0, having won their first district game last week against Marshall High.
Kellsie Steinocher was the winning JV pitcher, and also contributed by hitting a triple. Steinocher foresees the rest of season going “really well,” keeping in mind that “teamwork is the key component in the game.”
Varsity player Kayla Boucher had a double, along with Maddie Reid, Haley Fuller, and Savannah Sandoval. Kiana Workman had two doubles.
The team lost twelve key senior players last year, but the coach is looking to “rebuild”.
“We are going to be competitive in our new district and look forward to our new competition,” Coach Benita Dunlavy said, who is also focused on instilling consistency and leadership into the teams.
Boucher considers this year as a “learning experience”.
“Winning our first two games was very exciting,” she said, “it’s helped us with our confidence playing as a team and having each other’s backs on and off the field.”
