While the team has had a great season, the Cougars play in a highly competitive district and it came down to the final game to determine if they would make the playoffs.
The varsity squad finished the regular season with a 20-7 record, and will face Atascocita in the first round of the playoffs. The best-of-three series begins Thursday night at THS, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
Coach Doug Rush is encouraging students and faculty to show up Friday night to help the Cougars get off to a great start in the playoffs.
In last night’s game, Rex Hill won a pitching duel with the Atascosita pitcher. The final score was 2-1 keeping the Cougars on top. Hill gave up one hit, while Ishmael Edwards had a towering homerun that cleared the trees in left center field. Troy Gillen and Eric Dunbar also had many hits.
The entire team played great defense. Tonight will be game 2 at Atascosita, beginning at 7 p.m. If necessary, a third game will be on Saturday at C.E. King High School, beginning at 2 p.m.
