New district, new challenges

A new district means new competition for Tomball sports teams next year.  Predictions are being made as coaches prepare for a different level of play.

Without any previous experience against these other schools, the Cougars will really have to step it up in order to beat these teams.

“Tomball Memorial will be good competition,” said basketball coach Jim Kearns, “as well as the Fort Bend schools.”

Baseball can relate.  According to Coach Doug Rush, “Ridge Point has a very good baseball program.”

Tomball football will also have some tough competition, but their main opponent is a different story.

“Tomball Memorial will be a challenge because they are so close to us,” assistant football coach Gary Van Sant said. “Neighbors will be playing neighbors.”

Football has the added wrinkle of having to name a new head coach for the coming year.

But every sport can agree, Stratford will be the greatest challenge of all.  According to Tomball swim coach Jim Sharp, “Stratford has always gone to state … but so have we.”
