This season, Tomball is preparing mentally and physically in order to beat out their toughest competition.
“The Woodlands’ players are really intense, and the Klein schools take tennis very seriously,” notes senior Caroline Hinojosa. “We want to beat them in finals.”
The Cougars have been conditioning and training during practice and even on their own.
“Personally, I have been running a lot,” said senior Bianca Zaragoza. “When it comes to it, I know how to hit, but footwork is a huge part.”
During these intense practices, the Cougars work on perfecting their technique.
“We have serve dominance,” said coach Kris Hebert, “as well as aggressiveness.”
Because there are currently nine seniors on the team, experience is also a big advantage for Tomball.
“We are the most diverse group on campus,” Hebert said.
For the varsity seniors, they have a chance to think about what they have done in the past, and focus on their goals for their last year with Tomball Tennis.
“I just really want to have fun and win the majority of my matches,” Hinojosa said.
The Cougars practice for about three hours during the season and about the same in the off season.
“We know that we can always improve,” Zaragoza said.
But as far as improving goes, the Cougars know they can always count on Coach Hebert for tips.
“Play hard, remain focused, and take it one point at a time,” he tells them.
