With Rugby season coming up, not only are the players working hard, but their fans are getting ready to support the team.
“I know that rugby doesn’t get a lot of recognition,” said fan Kathy Bui. “I want to be there to support my friends.”
They practice on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school, across the street, behind the bus barn. Despite the hard work, the players have a good time.
“Practice is a lot of fun,” senior Trey Hasket said. “Rugby is the best sport ever.”
“It gets pretty intense,” chipped in senior Trevor Lamkin.
Because the sport doesn’t get a lot of attention, many people don’t know how to play rugby.
“It’s like football and soccer … combined,” Lamkin said.
The team has begun practicing and will have its first game on Jan. 22 at St. Thomas, where they will participate in the annual “Rugbypalooza.” They hope to ride the skill of their key players to more wins in their second year of play.
“We have a lot of key players like A.J. Matthews and Josh D.,” Hasket said.
