Military now offering higher bonuses to new recruits

ROTC practicing before competition

The U.S. Army has recently raised their enlistment bonus to a maximum of $50,000 for new recruits. While there is a bonus for all new recruits, this high of a bonus would be for those who join for at least six years in highly skilled areas.

Recruitment numbers have decreased significantly in the last couple years due to Covid. Bonuses like this provide incentive to those looking into joining the army after high school, as well as provide jobs to make up for the lack of numbers.

“I believe it could make you financially stable if you come from a [financially unstable] family,” said Estefani Lagunes, a member of JROTC.

By being in JROTC in high school and taking the ASVAB test, graduates can join the army and receive different benefits, including an automatic increase in rank and pay.

If you are interested in enlisting after graduation or finding a career in the army, you can talk to NJROTC Commander Greg Boucher, NJROTC Chief Erick Geisler, College and Career counselor Emily Nichols, or the army recruiters who often visit the school.
