THURSDAY, MARCH 19, 2:30 p.m.

The UIL has announced that the suspension of all UIL activities – including athletics and academic events – has been extended until at least May 4.

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 5:45 p.m.

All Tomball schools will now remain closed until April 10, according to a statement from superintendent Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora.

“We will remain flexible as district and campus leaders are working diligently to plan for long-term delivery of instruction through remote learning,” she said in the statement. “Our District is dedicated to implementing a plan to provide quality instruction from the comforts of one’s home as we practice social distancing.”

If students do not have internet access at home, there is some good news – several area internet providers have offered free wifi through their hotspots. If you’re not in range at your home, however, you might need to work from a park or somewhere closer to a hotspot.

Earlier in the day, the state suspended STARR testing for this year. The district also plans to distribute a week’s worth of meals free to all TISD students tomorrow and Wednesday, from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m., at Tomball High School.

MONDAY, MARCH 16, 11 a.m.

The Tomball school district will remain closed this week as the COVID-19 virus continues to spread across the globe.

While exact numbers of cases in the greater Houston area are tough to estimate – relatively few people have been tested due to a shortage of test kits – the district has followed official recommendations and closed the school for this week.

The state announced Monday that the STAAR test has been suspended for this spring, so students will not need to worry about the important test on top of everything else.

For many of our students, school is the only place where they can get a nutritious meal each day, so the district is helping out by allowing curbside pickup of a week of meals per TISD student at the school on Tuesday and Wednesday, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. each day. Students should have their student ID number ready when picking up food.

FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 1:15 p.m.

Tomball ISD is highly encouraging ALL families and employees to self-report ANY travel outside the State of Texas during Spring Break by filling out the survey provided in the below links whether you are a parent of a student or a TISD employee. This survey will help the District make informed decisions based on travel from our families.

Please know that the information collected from this self-reporting survey will remain confidential and used by necessary district administration to make informed decisions and plan for next steps.

If you are a TISD employee and also have a child enrolled in one of our schools, please take the time to fill out both surveys.

Take the surveys HERE.

In addition, all UIL competitions – sports and academic – will be called off until no earlier than March 29, the state announced in a press release today.

THURSDAY, MARCH 12, 4 p.m.

The school district has delayed the return of students from Spring Break until March 23, as a precaution during the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
