Remodel effort will close upstairs classrooms

Next year’s students will face some changes pertaining to their walking schedule. The entire second floor of the building will be closed throughout the year due to massive renovations and remodeling.

Students have already begun weighing the pros and cons of the new plan for the once English and foreign languages floor.

It’s crazy that everything is being moved downstairs,” said incoming senior Kyla Hall. “It’s going to be so weird having to relearn where all the classes are!”

Rumors of many modifications have been discussed among teachers and students, but Superintendent Huey Kinchen told the Cougar Claw that the upstairs will be turned into a type of “school inside a school,” possibly a magnet program.

Whatever it becomes, the second floor will not reopen until the 2017-2018 school year.

All upstairs English teachers are being relocated to the current math hallway, and math teachers are being moved to other empty classrooms.

“Thank goodness this whole ‘school within a school’ is in effect after we leave,” soon-to-be-senior Alex Pitcher said. “But it is going to be hard having to relearn where everything is. It’s like starting over!”
