Traveling to the St.Francis Wolf Sanctuary

Just 45 minutes away from Tomball, in Montgomery there is a place for abandoned and mistreated wolves to have a home.

The St.Francis Wolf Sanctuary was started by Jean LeFevre in 2002 after visiting two wolves being cared for by veterinarians and was encouraged to find a way to take care of them herself. The sanctuary is run with the help volunteers and donations, and currently has 14 wolves and wolf-dogs.

It is free to visit any of these animals, although a 10 dollar donation is recommended. Of course they are two layers of fencing to keep you safe but you can still get a great view of their beautiful animals with no problem. The guides also give you a backstory to all the wolves such as a brother rivalry that existed between the wolves Remus and Romulus that caused them to be separated by two habitats.wolfRomulus

Once the tour is over, as long as conditions permit, they bring out a half wolf named Rafiki, who you get to pet while she struts across the aisle.

After the tour is over you can visit the gift shop and get a nice Romulus poster or key chain, sponsor a wolf, or learn how you can volunteer at the sanctuary.

The sanctuary also hosts other events such as over night camp fires where they have discussions about wolves and listen to the pack howl led by the oldest wolf Mystery. Or you could attend the annual birthday party thrown for the wolves on April 18th, the event will have BBQ and drinks, a bake sale, music and of course wolves. The event is 12-4pm and is $10 for adults and $5 for children
