Upcoming elections: How to prepare

Sydney Thomas-Arnold, Feature Editor

Texas elections are coming up. For in-person voting, early voting opens on Oct. 24th and ends on Nov. 4, and the official Election Day is Nov. 8.

These elections will determine a multitude of official jobs in the Texas government, one of the significant electors including the State Governor. A complete list of the offices up for election can be found here.

The deadline to register to vote is Oct. 11. Students that are currently 18 or are turning 18 before the voter registration deadline will have the opportunity to vote in this year’s election. Note that you must be registered to vote 30 days in advance of the election to participate.

Registering is simple and can be done quickly. Here’s how:

  1. Fill out a registration application here.
  2. Once filled out, print the completed application.
  3. Lastly, sign the physical copy and mail it to your county election office.

As you consider voting, it’s recommended to do independent research on the candidates in preparation for election day.

More information on registering, and voting in general, can be found here.
