‘Tis the season to be hunting

Tomball High School has many students that enjoy hunting, and with deer season underway some students shared their experiences — what they like and what they don’t like about hunting, as well as where they’ve been hunting.

“I was deer hunting in Mexico and in the morning it’s like 32 degrees outside so I had all my stuff on [Heavy Winter clothes],” Bradan Baskin said. “And they forgot about me. So I sat in the deer stand while it was 110 degrees outside in the afternoon with all my stuff on and no water. Whenever I was sitting there a rattlesnake went right up the stairs to the deer stand while I was sitting there. And I turned around and there was a rattlesnake there, and yeah I jumped out of the stand.”

Hunting can also be a pretty positive experience.

“We went to Alaska once and did some really cool stuff while there. We fly fished in a freshwater river, hunted huge Elk, and got really close to a Grizzly Bear while in Alaska.” James Murray said. “I like to relax in the deer stand and watch the deer under the feeder, and watching the Sun come up over the trees.”

Watching for that perfect deer to take home can make it all worthwhile.

“Sitting in the deer stand and taking a shot at the deer we picked out,” Josh Frosts said of his favorite moment in hunting. “Walking to the deer stand is not the most exciting thing to do, though.”

Every hunter has their own story, their favorite memories, whether it was a really good shot on a deer, funny moments in the deer stand, or any other awesome memories while hunting. The beauty about hunting is that no matter where you go, who you hunt with or what you are hunting, your experience will be your own.
