Project Prom keeps the party going
On April 26, around midnight, about 350 seniors drove up to Tomball High after a long night filled with dancing. Following prom were six more hours of activities and fun with friends.
Project Prom, according to Laurie Strutz, head of 2015 ‘Project Prom’ committee, was a “fun filled event.” “This last project prom consisted of over 90 parent volunteers,” she said. “The fundraising efforts utilized over 200 volunteers all year long for hours and hours of hard work. This year, we raised over $50,000, allowing us to not only provide entertainment all night long, but to give away $25,000 in prizes and scholarships.”
The students always look forward to going to prom and the party that follows up afterwards. With so many activities and all the hard work parents put into it, the students really get to enjoy themselves.
“I liked having everyone in one place and having so much to do. With all the activities, including the casino, I had a lot of fun with my friends,” said senior Kyle Harmon.
Project Prom is a safe fun filled evening for seniors, following their prom night. This organization was created by parents to keep alcohol and drug abuse away from their kids at an after prom party, to hopefully prevent any serious injuries.
The parents create a ‘party like’ environment for the students with lots of games and activities to keep the seniors happy and occupied. Not only do they stay and party, but project prom is also a lock-in-letting out at six-the following morning.
Parents run the party and try to create the perfect and safe environment for the kids. There are many generous donations and fundraisers to help offset the costs needed to run the night.
This program is the best way to keep students out of trouble, parents say, while putting a close on their last year at Tomball High. Project Prom is a lasting tradition that will make Prom night a little more memorable.
