Johnson living the dream

“Make your dreams come true, because life isn’t going to hand it to you.”

Great advice from Tomball High’s very own London Jonson. Outgoing and often smiling, she’s making her dream come true.

Working with her older Brother, Brandon, a junior here at THS, London is the lead singer the rising band Late Friday. “A friend told me her band was looking for a singer,” London said, “and that’s how it all started.”

Late Friday takes up most of her time, but she also sets aside space for the other most important people in her life; “My family and my boyfriend.” London said, without hesitation.

The youngest of two, London (age 15), Brandon (age 16), and both of their parents work hard to lead and manage the band. London’s boyfriend, Jared Kubiak (17), lives in New York and is a senior in high school. Despite the distance, they remain close. “He’s not just my boyfriend, he’s my best friend.” She says. And with almost two years of long distance, there’s little room for argument.

On weekends, when she’s not with her band, you can find Ms. Johnson at church, where she goes to reconnect with herself and God. One of her major goals right now is “Trying to keep a balance, and trying to figure out who I am.”

When asked about the difficulties of being a teenager in a band, she frowned, stating that between being in public school and on social media, she really has to be careful about what she does and says. “It’s a lot of fun, but you have to grow up fast.”

But her “drive to succeed” and the thought of performing for crowds inspires our young singer to go on. Then years from now she hopes to still be on the road with her band. “I wouldn’t go anywhere without them,” London gushes. “They’re family.”

Literally. In a separate interview with her older brother Brandon, we asked what it was like working together. “Our styles of music don’t really match up… We get along, but we usually need a mediator.”

Though London might seem to bask in the social scene, she is currently considering being homeschooled to take some of the stress off of her life. Most of her church friends are also homeschooled, so she feels it would be a happier environment, and allow her to stay close to the group.

All in all, London Johnson is a very approachable student at THS. Just make sure you get her autograph before it’s too late!
