Microsoft gobbles up Minecraft

As the world of gaming progresses, graphics and high resolution have almost become necessities in a games success. One game that had defied this standard however, has been the X-Box and desktop game Minecraft.

Minecraft provides a creative and unrestricting environment in which players can create with people around the world, achieving more than 100 million downloads since its release in 2009.

After establishing itself, the Stockholm-based game developer, Mojang was approached by Microsoft with an offer to make a version of the game for X-Box. The version was a major success, with over two billion hours played on the X-Box in the past two years alone.

Now, Microsoft has taken it a step further, actually buying Mojang for $2.5 billion. Both Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, and Carl Manneh, the CEO of Mojang, have released statements saying that they are excited for the future of Minecraft and look forward to seeing how they can work to advance the game.

Microsoft has announced that Minecon, a sort of Comic Con exclusively for Minecraft, will continue next year, and the company will be looking to improve the event with their wide slew of resources.

Microsoft studios has headed games with tremendous success such as the Halo and Fable franchise, and a large portion of gamers are excited to see what changes Microsoft will make.
