The Lady Coogs have tacked two playoff wins on to an already outstanding season, and are now heading to Dallas to play in their regional semifinals matchup.
In round one against Cy Woods, captain Emily Fowlkes scored early to take a 1-0 lead before the Wildcats answered back with a penalty towards the end of the half. The teams would remain deadlocked at a goal a piece for the remainder of the game until with 50 seconds left in the second period of OT sophomore Ella Taylor connected with a header that would find the back of the net and propel the Cougars over the Wildcats and into the next round.
The matchup against College Park was also one that was tightly contested for much of the game, as although the Cougars had multiple opportunities, neither team could find the net for the majority of the match. That changed when Fowlkes found fellow captain Avery Kelley for a late goal that put the Coogs up 1-0, and the girls would strike gold twice more in quick succession taking the score from 0-0 to 3-0 in just eight short minutes and the girls would raise the area trophy.
The Coogs are taking on Forney in their next matchup, which will be played in Belton at Tiger Field at 6:30 p.m. this Friday. Forney is a formidable opponent so although it is a bit of a drive the girls are looking for all the support they can get from fans.
