The Lady Cougars have had a blazing hot start to the season, sitting firm in the running for a district championship. They are currently 6-1-1 in district play and sitting at 2nd place, with Magnolia trailing close behind at 6-2 and Oak leading slightly at 7-1
The team’s attack is spearheaded by junior Gabby McCuiston and sophomore Ella Taylor, midfield is held down by team senior captains Emily Fowlkes and Tatum Greensage, and in goal is a young twin pairing of junior Arianna Glass and sophomore Karlee Deitrich
So far the girls have played great defense and had very good keeper play only allowing 3 goals through their first 8 district games, however goal production could be better as they have the lowest goal production of all the top five teams in the district.
They have an easier stretch of the schedule coming up as they’re playing teams in the lower half of the district, however they’ll have to play the other three teams currently setting in playoff spots in a row at the tail end of the season, Oak, Magnolia and Memorial with the first two being on the road.
The recent drought of scoring comes as a bit of a surprise as the Cougars beat their first opponent of the year 6-0, then won their first two district games by a combined score of 6-1. Regardless, the team is certainly still ok with 2-1 or 1-0 wins as regardless of the differential they go in the W column.
They initially started district play 5-0, then tied Memorial and lost to Magnolia back to back, then bounced back with a win over Cain and are hoping to get back on a hot streak with a senior night matchup against bottom team in the district Klein Forest, who has allowed a whopping 52 goals through seven games.
