Sports Recap: Boys Soccer climbs the divisional ladder
Boys soccer racked up a few points this week in the divisional standings as the late stages of the season are approaching. Freshman and JV squads took action Saturday against Klein, where the freshman team continued its dominance with a 3-0 victory and JV pulled out a 1-1 tie. Varsity played a make-up game against Mag West Thursday after the snow days and put up a strong performance to attain a 1-0 victory before hosting Klein Saturday and surmounting a 2-0 deficit late to secure a tie with a last minute penalty 2-2.
Soccer’s upcoming schedule is quite important to their playoff hopes. They travel to Klein Oak Tuesday and face off against Tomball Memorial Friday at TISD Stadium. Sitting at fifth currently in district standings, with Oak trailing them closely and Memorial sitting at third, the Cougars will be looking to secure at least one win over their next two matchups.
Girls Basketball looking to pick up steam as they hunt a playoff spot
Girls basketball is approaching their final few games of the regular season. They hosted Memorial on Friday, where the underclass teams both secured wins against Memorial on Friday in dominant fashion as they’ve done all season, both winning by a margin of over 30. Varsity is boasting a 20-8 record which is a strong performance however their district record is 7-6, putting them just out of a playoff spot at fifth in the district. A 29-36 loss to Memorial on Friday was costly in the tight race, but Memorial is a tough opponent who holds an 11-2 district record.
The upcoming games of Magnolia on the road on Tuesday and Klein Cain at home on Friday are key as the Cougars currently sit two games out of fourth place in district. Cain and Mag have both struggled in district play but nonetheless games the Cougars need to make up some ground heading into the postseason.
Girls Soccer continues roll to stay atop district
Girls soccer is coming off a strong week where they beat Mag West Wednesday 2-1 and Klein on Friday 2-0 as well as JV tying Klein 1-1. They have secured multiple wins up to this point in the season and have found themselves at the top of the district without a district loss this far.
The girls have Oak and Memorial on their schedule this week. Oak is a big game for the Cougars as they’re also undefeated in district, the winner of this game coming out as lone district leaders along with a head-to-head tiebreaker, and they’ll travel to Tomball to face the Cougars. Memorial is also a formidable opponent, as they stand at 3-1 and fourth in the district, and the Cougars will take them on at Tomball Memorial. Coming out of this week with two wins or even a win and a tie would be huge for the district race.
Boys Basketball celebrating seniors amidst playoff elimination
The basketball team has gone cold at the wrong time, losing five of their last six all by double digits, the latest of which being to Memorial 33-52. They’ve also had unlucky spouts all year, hitting multiple unfortunate losing streaks with one possession losses. They sit near the bottom of the district but despite that are still playing hard and have something to play for, which is leaving their seniors off on a good note.
The team will host Magnolia on Tuesday as their senior night before they travel to Klein Cain on Friday as one of their last games of the season. Cain and Magnolia both sit directly above and below the Cougars respectively in the district standings, so not much shakeup in the overall playoff picture however still big games as the 2025 seniors suit up for the final couple matchups of their high school careers
In other news, baseball and softball prepare to start their season. Softball has already started scrimmaging opponents, and baseball just recently finished their tryouts and are starting up team practices.
