The Cougars had a very strong regular season going 9-1, backed by their explosive offense and strong defense that played coercively to compile an impressive regular season resume. They were the first Tomball team to beat Klein Collins since 2007, the first to go 8-0 since 1991, the first to beat Magnolia West in school history, first to beat Magnolia since 2018 and the first to win district since 1988.
Tomball football has built a strong reputation since Athletic Director Dave Handal arrived in 2019, highlighted by a deep playoff run into the State Semifinals in 2021, and this season was extremely successful in its own right
The regular season kicked off with a close win over Stratford 41-39, then followed with a Senior night win over Cinco Ranch, and a huge win over Klein Collins rolled the team into the bye week with momentum which they came out of with a blowout Homecoming win to climb to 2-0 in district. They then rolled through their next three district games, the last of which being a big win in the Patriotic game to be the first 7-0 Tomball team in 33 years and hold a firm district lead. They would extend their winning streak with a playoff clinching win over Magnolia to go 8-0 and unfortunately lose to Cain the next week but end the regular season by sealing a district championship over Klein Forest.
Into the playoffs the Cougar came in as district champs which made their path harder than usual and it showed as after a good first round outing where they beat Cy Springs they instantly faced the #10 team in the state Willis, and if they had gotten by them #6 DeSoto sat waiting for them in round three, however the team unfortunately fell short to Willis in a heartbreaker
Overall the season was a big success as the Cougars raised the bar and the standard for success that they have been building over the course of the last few years, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. This team has a lot to look forward to behind many returning starters or rotation players from this year and an amazing coaching staff to develop those guys and reload for next season in which they will look to make a repeat district championship run and get another shot at a state championship.
The most namely returners are guys who absolutely stood out this year getting 1st or 2nd team All-District nods with their senior season still to play such as QB Jaxyn Faldyn, TE Miles Roy and WRs Hunter Rathke and Malik Johnny offensively and LB Braeden Schneider and DBs Dayton Navy and Chance Green defensively. This season was already highly successful and the future is very bright for the Tomball Cougars.
