Returning to the team where he once played as a student, Coach Robert Swallwood is now leading the JV and Freshman soccer team as they prepare to open the season in October.
Smallwood was born in the United Kingdom, but at the age of 7 he came to Tomball and actually graduated from Tomball High School, participating in the JROTC program and soccer team.
He believes in a new and specific philosophy for their players involving group work.
“So, my personal philosophy is that the individual player needs to be molded into the team,” he said. “We can have amazing players, but if we are not playing as a team, it will never work.
“Tomball High School has three consecutive district championships, so the goal is not just make it to playoff but to maintain the district championship.”
His major goal is to achieve the district championship for Tomball for the fourth time in a row.
Right now he is excited for next season and he sends a message for all their future players that want to join the JV or Freshman team.
“They need to develop as fast as they can because they need to begin the work as a team, not as an individual,” said Smallwood of his incoming players.
