This weekend marks the first competition of the year for THS’s robotics team “T3”, as they take on over 30 other teams at the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) in Tomball. This event will put months of hard work to test, challenging each team to demonstrate their engineering, strategic and teamwork skills in a series of intense matches.
In the 2025 FRC game, teams compete in alliances of three robots against another three-robot alliance, working together to score points by completing game-specific tasks, like retrieving and delivering game pieces to specific areas. Each match will also include an autonomous phase where the robots will follow its programming, and later it is followed by a driver controlled phase. Strategy plays a crucial role, as teams must not only execute their own game plan but also coordinate with their partners to maximize points.
The competition will be held at the Tomball Agricultural Center, one of the buildings of the Tomball Star Academy, and will last for 2 days; this Saturday, March 1, from 9:30 a.m. to around 6 p.m., and Sunday, March 2, from 8:30 a.m. until 6pm.
Spectators are welcome to attend and support the teams, and a live stream will be available for those who can’t attend but still wish to see the competition. Food trucks and concessions will be on-site, and the Booster Club will provide meals for T3 team members.
