Red Ribbon Week was created as a fun way to educate students on drug use in hopes of preventing it on campus. This week is about students having fun, dressing up in costumes and doing fun activities.
The meaning of the week has been forgotten since people do not give much importance to the actual movement. The purpose and meaning of Red Ribbon Week is to get the attention of the students using fun and lighthearted dress up days in hopes of students avoiding drugs by distracting their mind with a week full of joy. At this age is when students are exposed to the influence of social media, decisions, and responsibilities. For this reason, it’s important to maintain the significance of this week and teach students about drug awareness in a more fun way encouraging responsible behavior.
The campus will now be honoring the memory and legacy of the DEA agent “Kiki” Camarena who inspired the movement that helps students learn about the dangers of use of drugs in a fun way through dress-up days.
