Signing Day is a huge day in sports, as athletes choose what college they’ll attend. Now, those going into STEM fields have their day to shine.
Several students committed to their college of choice in a STEM related field last week in a special ceremony.
From astronomy to computer science, these dedicated seniors have put much of their high school career into pursing a future in those felids. To most, it’s more the just money, its passion.
“I am very excited for my major getting to be a part of the maritime program,” said senior Galvin Nugent, who will attend A&M Galveston. “The person who inspired me to do my degree is a worker at a small aquarium in Ohio who gave my family a personal seal show due to being the only people there.”
While there are many science degrees, some students decided to pursue a degree in the math field.
“I’m extremely excited to work alongside at Math and History departments at Rice,” senior Liz Cox said. “I’m excited for all the research opportunities that will come my way.”
Furthermore, many young women in America are pursuing careers in STEM. With a mostly male dominated field, seeing female representation is creating more and more young girls to strive and dedicate themselves to the world of science.
“As a women in STEM my mom has most inspired me to pursue a career in the astronomy field because of her background in geology, meteorology and astronomy,” said senior Meghan Schilder, who will attend Embry-Riddle University. “It is also inspiring to know that I’m going into a male dominated field so I can show that it can be done and get more women involved in aerospace degree”
