Every year since 1977, The Woodlands township hosts an Arbor Day event, giving away millions of trees and seedlings to residents in hopes to help preserve the forests and help wildlife.
This year, the event is Saturday, Jan. 27, from 9 a.m. to noon at Rob Fleming Park.
They will be giving 12 varieties of native trees, categorized into overstory and understory trees. Overstory trees being given are: Shortleaf pine, Nuttall Oak, White Oak, Pecan and Black Oak. Understory trees being given are: Persimmon, Flowering Dogwood, Black Cherry, Chickasaw Plum, False Indigo, Buttonbush and Eastern Redbud.
These varieties help the local wildlife here, giving nectar for bees, butterflies and other pollinators and food for small animals and birds.
Stop by, learn more about the trees and our wildlife and plant a tree.
