Getting ready for college? Here’s what you need, seniors!

Getting ready for college is a long and important process. We’ve compiled a list of requirements for  seniors who are on their way into the big leagues.

SENIORS

THS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE CLASS OF 2017

  • If you need to retake the SAT/ACT, register for a test.
  • Narrow down your list of potential colleges, and begin your applications. November 1st is the early application deadline, so make sure you check for the deadline!
  • Look for scholarships!
  • Make sure to attend college fairs and ask specific questions.
  • Attend campus visits at the college/university. Make sure you follow the college visit guidelines in the student handbook. To get a college visit form, see Mrs. Nichols in the career.
  • File NCAA Clearinghouse applications, if you are planning on playing a sport in college for Division I or Division II schools. Don’t forget to register with the NCAA ( www.eligibilitycenter.org ) and send at least one test score to 9999 (NCAA)
  • Attend the offered financial seminars. (NOVEMBER 17, 2016)
  • File your FAFSA (Free Application For Student Aid) after October 1st of your senior year. Even if you do not have financial need, some scholarships require the application to be filled. fafsa.ed.gov
  • Request a mid-year transcript and reports to colleges/universities when needed.
  • Apply for TISD local scholarships in February. Adhere to all deadlines!
  • Register for Advanced Placement exams in January-February if enrolled in AP course(s). The test is in May.
  • Review college acceptances and scholarship awards. Notify colleges of your decision to attend or not to attend by May 1st, 2017.
  • Take TSIA or alternate placement exams, if needed, to attend a two-year school.
  • Don’t let senioritis set in. Keep academic motivation going through the end of your senior year.
