Flooding may result in make-up day

As everyone is aware, THS students were instructed to remain home Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week due to immense flooding. Parts of Highway 249 were completely submerged in water, and Spring Creek Park was literally just that – a creek.

Many families in the greater Houston area lost their homes, cars and valuables. People were left stranded or trapped in their houses or neighborhoods.

To help those in need, Student Council is sponsoring a canned good drive to aid those in need. You can donate canned goods/non-perishable items, toiletries, and cash through May 15. Donations can be dropped off in room 1201, 1205, or the Ag department during all lunches.

Also, due to the number of school districts that closed their doors this week, the state has decided to waive two of the missed days as a result of an “emergency situation.” However, TISD shut down their buildings for three days. Other area districts remain closed today and Friday.

The two excused days will not have to be made up, but the third day does. The district is still debating how to make up the lost time, and The Cougar Claw is investigating the issue.

We will inform students of any decisions made by TISD as soon as possible. Students, make sure to check our Twitter account (@cougarclawnews) to make sure you stay up to date on the latest news regarding the Houston flood.

If you were affected by the flood and have pictures you wish to share, download the Tomball High School app to submit your photos. Submitted pictures will be posted on our website.
