Bright Smith is new to the school but not teaching, having taught every subject in social studies over her 13 years in teaching.
Before Smith came to Tomball, she was a dean at the STEM academy in Carrollton. While being the dean she was in charge of 16 teachers who taught science, technology, engineering, and math as the other half of her day was spent teaching in the school. She was also tasked with recruiting students as well as building the program and managing the school’s budget.
“Though being a dean could be stressful, I enjoyed the job and was successful at it,” she said. “It was just a bit overwhelming to be a dean and also teach multiple subjects.” She said
Teaching so many subjects comes with stress, even if teaching is your passion. Administrative work took up most of her time, causing her to resign from her dean position.
“I stepped down because I was out of the classroom so often and felt like I couldn’t help the students while still doing the administrative work,” she said
Smith enjoys her life here at Tomball now that she is more lenient in her work life.
“Working at Tomball is less stressful for me than my last job because I am not overwhelmed with my workload,” she said. “I enjoy working at THS because it allows me to spend more time with my students and I’m closer to friends and family near the school.”
Bridget no longer has to feel engulfed with paperwork and complaints from faculty. Transitioning to THS was the right decision for her.
“I get to have more flexibility with how I teach my students on the lesson plans and can spend more time tutoring to help my students even more,” she said. “I am also not as overwhelmed with tasks as at my last school.”
