What’s so special about “Hamilton”?

One of the most talked about musicals, “Hamilton,” is about Alexander Hamilton and our founding fathers.

It has now won 11 Tony awards, 16 Tony nominations, which turned out to be the most nominations in Broadway history. The question remains: what has attracted so many people to the audience?

This musical was written by a young 35 year old composer, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the story is told through hip-hop and R&B. These genres are not usually found in a Broadway musical, which is why most were surprised it brought in $27.6 million, with over 200,000 tickets sold in advance.

This musical features a diversity of the characters. Some would even say that the diverse culture Hamilton brings to life is a way to remember the kind of America has grown to be.

Hamilton is only available in New York at this point with tickets sold out for months, but there is a way to find out what all the fuss is about.

The original cast recording is available in iTunes or Spotify in full; you could discover something you might really love. You might even realize the American Revolution is way more interesting this way than how you learned it in a classroom; it is a great way to listen to funny and daring music while learning about our history.
