Ex-Cougar Banks earns All-America honors

Texas A&M outfielder Nick Banks was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team, selected by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, the publication announced on Wednesday.

It adds to the list of honors Banks has accumulated. Last week he was named to the All-SEC Second Team as well as being selected to the SEC All-Freshman squad. Banks and Florida’s Logan Shore were the only two freshmen to earn All-SEC status.

Banks led the Aggies with a .327 batting average on the year. Playing in 57 games, including 55 starts, he logged 29 runs, 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs, 26 RBI and seven stolen bases.

In 30 SEC contests, Banks ranked fourth in the league with a .360 batting average, going 14-for-41 with seven doubles, one triple, one home run, 15 runs and 16 RBI. The Aggies posted a 36-26 record on the season and extended their school record string of consecutive seasons earning an NCAA Championship bid to eight seasons.
