Tomball baseball claims area championship
The Tomball baseball team defeated Austin Anderson twice this past weekend, earning them the title of Area Champions.
In the first game, senioe Rex Hill out-pitched Anderson’s Texas A&M signee. Hill pitched a one hit shutout and collected 12 strike-outs. Junior Ishmael Edwards had two hits and two runs. Senior Spence Rahm hit a solo home run. The final score was 3-0.
On Saturday, the Cougars gained 14 hits, earning them a final score of 11-1. Junior Nick Banks pitched a one hitter and also had two singles and a double. Anthony Lucas had two singles and a double as well. David Gonzalez had a single and a home run, along with three runs batted in.
Matt Mundkowsky hit a home run, while Rahm and Kyle Mulvey also had hits.
This week, the Cougars will face top-ranked Klein in the regional quarterfinals. Klein is Tomball’s district rival and was the District 13-5A champion.
Game 1 is at Tomball on Thursday, at 7 p.m, and the players are hoping for a hefty crowd. Game 2 is at Klein at 7.m. on Friday night, and a third game, if needed, will be played on Saturday at either noon or 1 p.m., most likely at The Woodlands.
