The Tomball Cougars rebounded Friday night to topple Dekaney 28-27 with a fourth-quarter rally capped by a last-second 40-yard field goal by Dillon Duarte to win the game.

The Cougars fell behind 14-3 at halftime but cut the deficit to 1 by the end of the third quarter. The teams traded touchdowns in the fourth quarter and Tomball closed to within two after Justin Dvorak found Hunter Thompson for a 25-yard touchdown pass with 11 seconds remaining, but missed on a two-point conversion.

But with a second chance as the clock ran out, the Coogs found a hero in Duarte, who split the uprights with a lengthy kick.

The win was key for Tomball, coming after a tough homecoming loss to district power Klein Collins the previous week, and leaves the Coogs with a 6-1 record, 3-1 in District 13-5A. Dekaney falls to 5-2, 2-2 in district. Tomball remains in good shape to make the playoffs.
